The Young Evils are Troy Nelson (guitar/vocals) and Mackenzie Mercer (vocals) with: Cody Hurd (guitar), Barrett Jones (bass), and Faustine Hudson (drums). The Seattle-based band selfreleased their debut album, “Enchanted Chapel,” produced by Barrett Jones (Nirvana, The Melvins, Pussy Galore) in August 2010. Having played the Capitol Hill Block Party and the Seattle Weekly’s Reverb Festival, The Young Evils are gearing up for the SXSW Seattle Showcase. They’ve opened for The Vaselines, The Dum Dum Girls, and Exene Cervenka of X. “A Just Built Beaming Light” was selected by KEXP 90.3 as Song of the Day on Aug. 20, 2010, and NPR selected “Get Over It” as Song of the Day Oct. 25, 2010.
“The Young Evils traffic in some of the city’s sweetest
pop-rock confections. If you feel bad while listening to
Enchanted Chapel, you probably need psychiatric help. It’s
almost impossible to frown or furrow a brow to it.”
-Dave Segal, The Stranger
“Enchanted Chapel is one of the most eagerly awaited
albums from the Seattle area for some time, and sounds
totally worth it.”
-Three Imaginary Girls
“Think the Dutchess & the Duke without so much doom and gloom, or a less saccharine She & Him. And somewhere in the poppy middle of country and rock.” -LB, Seattle Subsonic
“…poppy songs that will make you smile and sway your
head back and forth.”
